SimRPG95 Frequently Asked Questions By Odin (temporaryodin@hotmail.com) This FAQ is created for all the newbies and oldbies who have problems with Simrpg95. In this FAQ I try to solve the common problems with SimRpg95, cause it is, without doubt, the buggiest piece of cra.. ermm.. I mean software ASCII has ever released! (Btw, If you don't know how to solve these problems even if you've read the answers, you're probably too stupid to use Simrpg95, it's the hardest of all Makers anyway, although, it's easy to use. Confusing eh? =) ---------- Q: Why do you even bother using Simrpg95? Rm2k is sooo much better! A: Yeah, it IS better. But then again, Simrpg95 is not for making basic console-style-rpgs, it's about making Tactical RPGs, like Shining Force. You can actually make tactical RPGs with RM2K too, but it's easier with Simrpg95. The good thing about it is, that it has excellent graphics, and is quite easy to use. Q: Hey! I downloaded new graphics from Lord Dragoon's site, and when I try it in the game it just gives me an error. A: This is a common problem. Simrpg95 is a stupid program, because you can only use certain battle animation with certain character graphic. Just change the name of the battleanimation to fit the character graphic. Q: I downloaded the graphics from Lord Dragoon's site, but the colors are all messy. A: This is a problem with palette. Simrpg95 uses 256 colors, and every graphic must have the same palette as others. So, go to www.jasc.com and download Paint Shop Pro. It's very easy to use, and you can use it to change palettes easily. The problem usually is, that the system graphic is different than the chips. Just load a chipset in PSP, and choose Save Palette, then load the systemgraphic too, and choose Load Palette (choose the one you saved before). Now, it should work fine (unless, some other graphic files have other palettes too, to fix this, just repeat the Save Palette and Load Palette thingy =) Q: How do I do a start position? A: This question sounds stupid, maybe it is too, but the answer is simple. Just do an event, and choose player in it and the character you want, d'oh! Q: My characters start with level 1 in the next map!!!! A: Common problem too. Just don't put StartPosition thingy to the second map. There's a certain event when used, it should bring up your old characters to the next map. Q: Where do I put sounds & music? A: The sound files (*.wav files) have to be put into the "Efs" folder of your project, the music files (*.mid files) into the "Bgm" folder. If you don't have this folders, just make them. Q: How many games are there for Simrpg95? A: You can count the with one hand's fingers. Not much. And half of them are japanese ;) Basicly, your game might be the best out there! Q: Where can I download Simrpg95 and Graphics & sounds? A: Simrpg95 can be downloaded at http://rmdownloads.cjb.net or http://codemason.cjb.net for the newest translation. Or, you can download it at Lord Dragoon's page (http://lorddragoon.50megs.com/) And Sounds & Music can be anything, there's lots of midis in the net too (try www.vgmusic.com or www.midi.net) ------ Did these answer all your questions? Probably not. But there's always the Simrpg95 Forum, where you can request for graphics (there's not much, really!), or report bugs (people usually spam here, lol). But the general chat is full of intelligent people who can answer your questions.. I'm not the best one to use Simrpg95. But there's someone who does, Lord Dragoon. (Though he uses Rm2k a lot nowadays, but visits the Simrpg95 forum frequently) You can ask him and others questions about simrpg95 at http://pub75.ezboard.com/ftherm2kworldfrm9 (or just go to http://go.to/rm2k and choose the RM2K world messageboard :) Be sure to visit the forum if ya have something, or just mail me. As I said, I don't use Simrpg95 that much, I just made this faq because there ain't any.
